1. Take a look at your utility bills.
Add up what your yearly electrical consumption is in kWh (kilowatt hours).
Then add up what your yearly natural gas or propane consumption is in therms.
You'll need this information when you chat with us.
2. Give us a call at 612-623-3246.
Call us to have a free, no-obligation chat with one of our sales people about your project goals and budget.
3. Schedule your solar site evaluation.
Our fee for residential solar site evaluations is $195.
Our fee for business solar site evaluations is $295.
If you purchase a solar energy system from IPS Solar you will receive a credit for your solar site evaluation.
4. Explore your design contract options.
Most commercial systems require a design contract before we offer you a proposal for your project. Residential design contracts are considered on a case by case basis.
A design contract may also be required for systems to be integrated into new construction.
The purpose of a design contract is to identify and work through any challenges to a good solar installation and to develop a realistic budget so you can make informed decisions.
5. Review your proposal.
You will receive a proposal for your project after your solar site evaluation and any required design work is complete.
Your proposal will include:
- the size and location of your system
- the energy production and cost savings you can expect from your system
- the positive environmental impact your system will produce
After you have reviewed your proposal, sign it and return it to IPS Solar with your down payment. We will begin to order the parts for your system and schedule your system installation after we receive your down payment.

6. Scheduling Your Installation
The scheduling for your system installation will depend on the availability of the parts for your system. Because of the world-wide demand for solar electric modules, it can take 2 to 4 months for your modules to arrive from the manufacturer.
Solar heating panels are currently more readily available in the U.S., but the scheduling of your installation can still be a few months after you return your proposal to us because of the growing demand for solar heating systems.
7. Installing Your System
Once your installation begins, we will keep you informed about the status of your installation. It usually takes a few days to a few weeks to complete your installation, depending on its size and scope.
We will help you with the paperwork process to receive your rebate(s) if you have a solar electric system. There are currently no rebates for solar heating systems or wind electric systems.
If you have any questions or concerns about your project, please feel free to contact your sales person or our Operations Manager, Matt Miller.
